The Trip
We had an easy drive down on Thanksgiving Day, mostly
because we left early. We camped at the
show site T. Garrison’s arena, and arrived around 2pm. Our RV site was #27 but need to remember in
the future to try and get on the end as it gets packed when you are in the
center.
We unloaded and immediately went to the Botanical
Gardens. It is amazing that dogs are
allowed at this place. Yet, new this time,
was a marked path that didn’t allow dogs.
That was a pity. But there’s
plenty of walking around the pond and the paved roads surrounding the
gardens. It’s still possible to get the
beautiful views of the foliage and flowers.
The fall colors were still in bloom and we enjoyed the bold red and
orange trees.
The paved roads make it easy to stroll Logan too. Although, he really didn’t need it much. One day was warm and he needed to be in the
stroller more, but the other days were cooler and he enjoyed jumping out and
meandering along. In fact, when we hit
the field path at the far back of the gardens he started his bounding zoomies
and even chased a couple squirrels. It
was great to see him have such life.
Cadia, Frye, and Braddock enjoyed the trails, especially the
squirrels. We let Cadia off leash for a
bit and she ran around chasing squirrels like a maniac. It drove Braddock and Frye crazy. I had to work on training Frye not to go into
the Greyhound theatrics when she saw a squirrel.
We visited the gardens not only that Thanksgiving day, but
also in the morning and afternoon on Friday, and one more time before we left
on Saturday. We had originally planned
to head out early Saturday after the show, but then we decided to stay and enjoy
the beautiful weather. This meant we
could only make it up the road as far as El-Ver campground where we stay for
the Concord trial. It was a good
decision because it gave us a chance to enjoy the outdoors during daylight and
then pull up to an easy RV camp in the dark.
The familiarity with the campground made El-Ver a safe decision.
The Agility Trial
The show went the best it could have as a finale to the year
and prep for the Invitational. It was
such a confidence boost. We were clean 6
of the 6 runs. The most memorable run
was the Premier STD run. I finished
second to Dudley, but so close to her amazingly fast border collie. This was the run where we did an awesome
reverse spin at the end of the A-frame and then pull-through the threadle gap
and then rear cross on the flat to complete the 180. I finished that run feeling like it was
Braddock’s and my best run of our lives.
It was such a thrill.
Cadia got to get her massage from Sheila and Frye got out to
socialize with a lady who also ran a Greyhound in agility. The dog’s name is Bailey and she’s a pretty
good dog. A big girl, but honest and
fast out there on the course. It gets me
excited to get Frye out there going.
