2016 Invitational Trip: Disney Springs and Disney Magic Kingdom

We ate in Wednesday night, and afterwards I went out with my parents to Disney Springs.  None of us have been there.  I’d say I wouldn’t need to go again.  It’s not my kind of scene.  Lots of people, loud music, and all about shopping.  Nothing of interest to really see, and besides, I can shop at home.  I did find Russ a Columbia shirt that was a bargain. 

The only point of interest was watching the hot air balloon on the lake and then the fireworks.  We left after the fireworks.  No one had an interest in staying longer.  If we were to do it again, I would park in the lime parking garage (we parked in the orange parking garage) and I’d walk over to the marketplace to see the specialty shops  and do the trail of Christmas Trees.

For the third time now, we went out with my parents for dinner in Disney.  It was their treat, which was really nice.  We went to the same restaurant, near the Grand Floridian hotel.   The restaurant is called Narcoossee's and it sits on the lake and has a view of Cinderella’s castle on the other side of the lake.  The food is amazing, but it is expensive.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t eat due to the gallbladder issues.  I could only take a couple of bites of the scallops and they were incredible.

 We joked that dad got a fillet well-done.  No one does that.  Mom got a fillet medium, and loved it.  Russ approved.  Mom said she preferred the scallops.  Russ preferred the fillet to the scallops.  The waiter told us that the preference ratings among customers were:  1) Fillet, and 2) scallops.  So, Russ pretty much agreed with him.

 Each time we’ve been there we have gotten seated by the window overlooking the lake.  It’s really a nice view.  Then at 10pm there are fireworks, timed to music and storytelling, with lights from Cinderella’s castle.  This time the fireworks were panoramic.  I can’t even begin to fathom the amount of money to pull that off each night.

 Seeing the Grand Floridian again was also nice.  They do a great job of decorating for Christmas with the hallmark being a very large Tree, spanning about 4 floors, in the center of the hotel.  We had our picture taken in front of the tree.
The only thing I need to remember next time is to bring an extra jacket.  For some reason, in that area, the weather is always cooler, perhaps due to the breeze.  But every year I'm freezing cold.

KOA Oceanside CampGround and Bar Harbor Maine 2016

We took the 95 N route to Bar Harbor KOA from NH. Weather was much cooler in Maine. We arrived at the KOA Bar Harbor Oceanside, site 272 the best site in the campground.  Right on the water. I would say the campground in total has a typical KOA campground feel to it.  But, if you luck out to get a nice site on the water, the campground takes on a completely different feel.  The campground is not far from the town of Bar Harbor.  The cost of the campground is really for that water view and the proximity to Bar Harbor.  We headed into town and mom and dad got crabcake and lobster roll sandwiches from our favorite fresh seafood place Peekytoe Provisions. Russ and I got fresh Scottish salmon to put into a salad. On our next trip to Peekytoes we ate the amazing crab cakes and crab bisque for lunch. Skyline Ranch Resort - May 11-13, 2018

The Winchester area has always been one we've struggled to enjoy as a destination.  It's a great venue for agility, but the lodging has been lackluster.  Normally we stay at Candy Hill with the RV, but we don't enjoy it.  The campground is an easy-in, easy-out, right off the interstate. That is the only positive.  Forget about late check-out - they nickel and dime you for every minute.  Once we left 15 minutes late, but didn't worry about it until a young kid started chasing our RV on foot to retrieve the $2.00 owed for being late.   As far as the campground amenities and aesthetics, there isn't much to speak of. This trip, we decided to try somewhere different - Skyline Ranch Resort.  It was a significant improvement in primarily location.  The views of the skyline are breathtaking.  We stayed in site 132 (the row 130-132 is easy to get set up and rather level, but there isn't any shade).  There is another row on the other side, specifically site 23, that is s

Kitchen Remodel Dec 2018

We finally decided to improve the kitchen.  We had golden oak hardwood cabinets and a green/blue laminate countertop.  The cabinets did not have any decorative moulding and they were all uniform - no dimensionality.  The island had a raised bar portion that was raised 10 inches high.  I don't have a picture of that, but below is the picture with the bar raise cut down to only4 inches. Step 1 was to have some dimensionality in the cabinet above the microwave and over the fridge.  In addition, we added a light rail moulding at the bottom of the cabinets and decorative crown moulding on the top.
